Release and Resentment

Release and Resentment
Freedom granted
Csongor finds Mirígy bound beneath the tree and releases her after hearing her account of its miraculous fruit. His act of mercy gives her an opportunity to escape, but she answers gratitude with private threats.
Enmity takes shape
Mirígy’s resentment turns Csongor’s kindness into material for revenge. Her first deception establishes a pattern: she hides hostility beneath apparently useful information and manipulates other people’s hopes.
The Stolen Golden Lock

The Stolen Golden Lock
A covert injury
Mirígy sees the sleeping lovers and cuts a lock of Tünde’s golden hair. She plans to use it to disguise her daughter and make Csongor mistake one woman for another.
Intimacy turned into a weapon
The theft attacks the lovers’ trust without confronting them openly. By converting a token of Tünde’s beauty into a tool of impersonation, Mirígy makes the garden’s promise vulnerable to deception.
The False Servant

The False Servant
A substituted companion
Mirígy persuades Kurrah to impersonate Balga and to help bring about Csongor’s sleep. The plan depends on Csongor trusting the familiar servant beside him, even while the real Balga is confined elsewhere.
A stolen meeting
When Tünde arrives, the false servant does not wake Csongor. Her visit becomes another missed reunion, and she leaves believing their chance has been defeated by cruel fortune rather than a planted deception.
The False Oracle

The False Oracle
A manufactured vision
Mirígy prepares the Varázskút and its prophecy to present a misleading guide to Csongor. The staged vision offers direction while steering him away from Tünde.
Suspicion planted
At the same well, Tünde sees an image that appears to show Csongor with another woman. The deception turns separation into apparent betrayal, attacking the trust that might have survived distance.
The Tree’s Capture

The Tree’s Capture
A final theft attempt
Believing Tünde has abandoned the garden, Mirígy tries to dig up the golden tree for herself. Her schemes have not brought her the security or power she wanted, so she again turns to theft.
The net closes
Kurrah, Berreh, and Duzzog recognize her, bind her, and carry her away toward imprisonment in a linden tree. The conspirators’ own victims become the agents of her defeat, and Mirígy loses control over the magical world she has tried to exploit.
